I've been playing with my embroidery machine and some felt I had lying around and it resulted into this:

I quite like it. It makes me think of Christmas.
However, He-who-shall-not-be-named (does this make me sound like a Harry Potter addict?) didn't think much of it, so please feel free to give me YOUR opinion about it.

It initially started out as something I wanted to make for Nie (see my post below about the Nielson family). I chose a red robin since there is a legend about how this little bird got his name: When Jesus was wearing his crown with the thorns, a little bird came and tried to remove some of the thorns. While the little bird was doing so, some blood dripped onto his chest and it remained there forever. I know this is just a myth, since red robins don't live in that part of the world, but it's the symbolism that got to me. To me this little bird is a symbol that says: every little bit helps. And all over the world people are joining hands to remove some thorns by helping out the Nielson family.

I'm still not sure whether I should turn it into a brooch, a Christmas tree decoration or a gift tag that can be attached to the ribbon when you package a gift. Maybe I'll use it on a new (messenger style) bag. I need a new bag.

It will be beautiful whatever you decide to make with it. It is lovely and has a festive feel.
I love the legend. I have not heard of that one before. I will be sure to share it with the kids next time we see a Robin Red Breast!

Hi Tania

I have never heard that story about the robin. I think it is such a sweet story and a beautiful symbol. One which I will be telling Sav and Blake when they are older. I love hearing these stories which tell about how a creature came into being, or gained the features that it has.

What you have created could be so versatile. I think it is a wonderful idea to use this to help the Nielson family. Such a beautiful story behind the robin and it is certainly true in the case of Stephanie and Christian where everyone is coming together to help and every little bit will help them.

lots of love and hugs
Elise

I think it's beautiful; especially the reason. Maybe a bookmark or on a bag?
